Secret Itinerary of the Doge's Palace

Secret Itineraries of the Doge’s Palace

This tour takes you through the old Chancellery, the Torture Chamber and the Lead Chambers, rooms that were accessible only to the highest officials of the Republic. In the Chancellery they produced all kinds of documents, among them, records of secret information and instructions for Venetian sea captains and ambassadors abroad.

The Lead Chambers were special cells located under the roof of the Palace (covered with lead), where they usually locked up nobles or important people. A famous guest of the Lead Chambers was Casanova. We will learn why he was imprisoned and how he escaped.

The number of visitors for this tour is limited due to narrow passages and small rooms, and therefore a special reservation is required.
