Fin dai tempi antichi, questo piccolo anfibio nero chiazzato di giallo ha incarnato la prodigiosa virt\u00f9 di resistere indenne alla forza distruttrice del fuoco.<\/p>\n

Creatura dal sangue freddo e amante degli ambienti umidi, si diceva che si nutrisse delle fiamme per scaldarsi. Inoltre, quando minacciata, la salamandra secerne, attraverso le sue ghiandole velenifere, un liquido capace di provocare un\u2019infiammazione immediata nel predatore, caratteristica che ha consolidato nel tempo il suo legame simbolico con il fuoco.<\/p>\n

Nel Medioevo, il fuoco, e i roghi in particolare, si affermano come l\u2019arma con cui incenerire i corpi e le anime dei peccatori, per purgarli dal male che ha incancrenito le loro vite. La salamandra, che invece al fuoco sa resistere, nei Bestiari medievali viene associata al coraggio di chi soffoca volontariamente le proprie passioni terrene, scegliendo di vivere la vita retta del buon cristiano.<\/p>\n

Con il Rinascimento, il simbolo della salamandra si arricchisce di nuovi significati. Nell\u2019amore carnale, spesso evocato come un fuoco che divora, non si riconosce pi\u00f9 soltanto il peccato, ma anche la fragilit\u00e0 della natura umana, incapace di sottrarsi al suo incantamento. Di questo fuoco amoroso che avvolge, brucia e consuma, l\u2019amante non pu\u00f2 fare a meno: se ne nutre tra strazio e gioia. Il desiderio di crogiolarsi nel crudele e dolce tormento trova nella poesia una delle sue pi\u00f9 audaci espressioni, sublimandosi nel simbolo della salamandra.<\/p>\n
